The Osman-Freeman family

My husband Bill Freeman and I live in a “cohousing” neighborhood. Our three children attended Acton-Boxborough schools; they are now Operations Manager for Nubian Markets in Boston, a psychotherapist, and a musician. I have masters in both Public Health and Education, and I worked for many years in biostatistics. I write and draw. I have been changed for the better and had such fun with Acton’s inclusive Open Door Theater. Bill and I studied Mandarin and lived in northern China in the 1980s.

My own parents’ interests in science and culture, and their values in justice and inclusivity, shaped me. My mother taught languages and assisted new immigrants. We hosted international visitors. My father, a physicist and engineer, is blind and is a role model in attitude and adaptation to disability. My father’s father, a newly arrived shoe factory worker, supported unions and workers’ rights. Like all families, mine has been touched by physical and mental illness, and this has taught me empathy.
